Uniform Relocation Assistance

Every property is different. Your assigned Relocation Specialist will keep you updated on your property’s timeline. The City will have 12-18 months to relocate tenants after Closing of the property.

All tenants will receive a 90-day and 30-day notice with the expected move out date.

Tenants can relocate to a new unit anywhere outside of the City of Houston. Moving expenses will be paid up to a 5O-mile radius.

Relocation assistance can be used for moving expenses. downpayment assistance. and replacement housing rental payments. Your Notice of Eligibility (NOE) will clearly state your individual maximum benefit amount. Your final amount will be determined once you locate a replacement unit. This amount is calculated to cover the designated replacement housing payment for over a 42-month period.

Documentation can be submitted weekly to your assigned relocation specialist from 9:30 am -4:00 pm. every Friday.

Tenants should update the city and the leasing office, provide a proper move-out notice, forwarding address, and complete the Case Management Acknowledgment Form.

The City must perform inspections before moving into the new unit. The tenant must schedule an inspection with the assigned relocation specialist once the tenant has been approved for the unit. If the tenant moves to a property without a City inspection, relocation benefits could be impacted if the new dwelling does not meet Descent Safe and Sanitary (DSS) standards.

Walk-ins are welcomed, but we encourage tenants to schedule an appointment with their assigned relocation specialist, who will provide the necessary program documentation.

Tenants will have an assigned relocation specialist at each property.

Tenants must clear all balances prior to move out and provide proof to their assigned relocation specialist. Tenants who are evicted for violation of lease are not eligible for relocation assistance.

The City will not be renewing any leases. All leases will roll over month-to-month. However, tenants must be actively looking for a replacement unit.

Deposit fees are not eligible as relocation assistance reimbursement expenses. Tenants must be able to qualify for the new unit and cover all expenses before the issuance of eligible moving and replacement housing payments.

Processing of payments takes up to 7 -14 days for review and financial approval. Your assigned relocation specialist will provide bi-weekly updates on your payment status. In addition, tenants can follow up on their file status every 7-14 days.

All checks will be mailed to the tenant at the replacement unit address. The first rental housing payment (RHP) installment of 50% will be processed once the tenant moves into the replacement unit and the fully executed lease agreement has been provided.
